What we do
We make implants that fit one patient.
Every device starts as a CT scan and ends as a certified implant built for a single anatomy. We have manufactured patient-specific implants in Košice since 2010, working directly with surgical teams across Europe.
-
Patient-specific implants
Cranial, facial, thoracic and spinal reconstruction, custom-shaped to each patient’s anatomy and manufactured from titanium or PEEK.
-
Models and surgical guides
Anatomical models for surgical planning and rehearsal, with patient-matched guides.
-
Serial and on-demand production
Certified manufacturing capacity for medical-device partners requiring reliable series or on-demand production.
Products
The Three We are Asked for Most
Twelve categories in total. These three are what surgeons come to us with first.
Spinal implant and disc replacement
Fusion cages and disc replacements contoured to the patient’s vertebral anatomy, with a porous lattice structure designed to support osseointegration.
- Material
- Titanium, porous lattice
- Delivered
- Non-sterile, sterilised by the hospital
Titanium cranial implant
Built from the patient's CT data to close large and complex cranial defects, with fixation points agreed with the surgeon before anything is made.
- Material
- Titanium or PEEK
- Delivered
- Non-sterile, sterilised by the hospital
Titanium thoracic implant
Sternum and chest wall reconstruction shaped around one patient's anatomy. First implanted in Central Europe in 2017, with the thoracic surgery team in Martin.
- Material
- Titanium
- Delivered
- Non-sterile, sterilised by the hospital
Technology
The porous structure supports natural bone ingrowth into the implant.
Our implants carry a porous lattice modelled on the structure of real bone, designed to promote osseointegration rather than fibrous encapsulation. Manufactured layer by layer from medical-grade titanium according to certified processes.

Clinical Results
Selected Clinical Cases
Reconstructions delivered with surgical teams across Central Europe, from neurosurgery to maxillofacial practice.
-
“3D printed cranial implants let us give each patient a highly personalised, well-fitting reconstruction, and they cut both operating and recovery time.”
Assoc. Prof. Branislav Kolarovszki, M.D., PhD.
Head of Neurosurgery, University Hospital Martin
-
“In 2017 we were the first in Central Europe to replace a large part of the sternum with a patient-specific titanium implant. It changed how we plan chest wall reconstruction.”
Assoc. Prof. Anton Dzian, M.D., PhD.
Head of Thoracic Surgery, University Hospital Martin
What Comes Next
Titanium Today. Living Tissue Tomorrow.
CUSTOMED is our programme for the next generation of implants: 3D bioprinting, bioreactors and AI-driven design aimed at developing personalised cartilage and disc-replacement approaches using the patient’s own cells.
Explicell was selected as part of IPCEI Med4Cure, the first Important Project of Common European Interest in healthcare, approved by the European Commission in 2024.

Research programmes
Publicly funded research programmes, some of which we lead and some where we are a consortium partner.
